GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That’s the current official date after two delays. This post collects everything confirmed by Rockstar or its parent company, separates it from what’s merely reported, and flags what’s still unknown. We keep it updated.

Last updated September 5, 2026.

The release date and how we got here

The timeline of official dates:

AnnouncementStated release
Trailer 1 (December 2023)2025
Rockstar update (May 2025)May 26, 2026
Rockstar update (November 2025)November 19, 2026

The most recent delay pushed the game roughly six months. Rockstar’s stated reason was finishing the game to its expected level of polish. Take-Two has publicly stood behind the November date in its earnings communications.

We treat November 19, 2026 as firm for planning purposes. Our site-wide countdown runs to that date and is a single constant we’ll update if anything changes.

Platforms

Confirmed: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Not announced: PC. Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version or a PC timeline. Historically, both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles first with PC releases following later. Expect the same pattern, but treat any specific PC date you see as speculation.

Not announced: any previous-generation console version. Given the technical targets, one would be a surprise.

Editions and pricing

At pre-order launch, two editions were confirmed:

Standard Edition at $79.99. The full game.

Ultimate Edition at $99.99. The full game plus an exclusive bundle of premium vehicles, weapons, and apparel described as threading through all aspects of the game.

A few details worth noting for anyone thinking about items:

  • Rockstar has said the Ultimate Edition content can be unlocked after launch as an upgrade, so it isn’t a pre-order-only window. Supply of those items is limited by how many players eventually buy the upgrade, not by a deadline.
  • Unlike previous Rockstar launches, there is a single premium tier rather than several special editions.
  • Physical versions have been reported to ship as a code in a box rather than a disc. Treat that as reported, not something we’ve verified against packaging.

For traders, the Ultimate Edition exclusives are the first confirmed scarce items in the game. Their rarity depends on attach rate, and we discuss where they’d land in our rarity tiers framework.

Pre-order bonus

All pre-orders, regardless of edition, receive a bonus content pack at launch. The pack’s name references vintage city styling and includes cosmetic content. This is a genuine time-gated item set: available only to players who committed before release. If any form of transfer exists, time-gated launch items are historically the category that appreciates most.

Setting and story

Confirmed through official trailers and Rockstar’s site:

  • The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, with the city of Vice City as its centerpiece, a modern take on the Miami-inspired setting from earlier in the series.
  • Two protagonists, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, in a crime story that Rockstar has framed around their partnership.
  • A contemporary setting with in-world social media and a heavy emphasis on the state’s culture, from beaches to swamps to small towns.

Everything else about the story is trailer inference. We don’t cover story speculation here.

Online mode

Not officially detailed. Rockstar has not announced the structure, name, or feature set of GTA 6’s online component. Given GTA Online’s importance to the company, an online mode is a near-certainty, but nothing about its economy, trading, or creator tools is confirmed.

Reports suggest Rockstar has met with roleplay creators and server operators about online tools. We analyze those reports in what the FiveM acquisition means. None of it is official.

What remains unannounced

A running list of things people ask about that Rockstar has not confirmed:

  • PC release or timing
  • Online mode details, launch timing, or name
  • Any item trading, marketplace, or player economy features
  • Purchasable in-game currency for the online mode
  • Subscription services like GTA+
  • Map size, vehicle count, or other scale figures
  • Post-launch content roadmap
  • Cross-play or cross-progression

If you see any of these stated as fact, it’s from a leak or a guess. Our post on what the leaks actually say grades the trading claims specifically.

What the official material shows

Two trailers and a set of official screenshots are the only sanctioned footage. They focus on setting, character, and tone rather than systems. For anyone reading them for economy clues, the useful signals are indirect: a strong emphasis on fashion and personal style, a wide range of vehicles across social classes, and an in-world social media layer that suggests status and visibility matter in Leonida.

None of that confirms an item economy. It does confirm that the things an item economy would run on, visible cosmetics and desirable vehicles, are central to how Rockstar is presenting the game. We rank those categories in the 10 item types most likely to be valuable.

Key dates for planning

If you intend to be active in the item economy from day one, here’s how we’d map the calendar.

Now through launch. Pre-order decisions. The pre-order bonus is the only truly time-gated content confirmed so far. Read how to prepare for item trading for the full checklist.

Launch week, November 19 onward. Story mode releases. Whether online launches simultaneously is unconfirmed. GTA Online launched two weeks after GTA V.

Online launch, date unknown. The moment any player-to-player transfer is possible, our Price Index goes live. This is the date our email list exists for.

First month. Historically the window where early-adopter items are distributed and where economies are most mispriced.

How we verify

Our standard for “confirmed” is an official Rockstar communication, an official Take-Two statement, or the official pre-order storefront. Reporting from established outlets is labeled as reported. Leaks are labeled as leaks. We don’t blend the categories, and we update this post the day anything moves.

November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This is the official date after delays from 2025 and from May 26, 2026.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not announced. Rockstar has confirmed only the current-generation consoles. Previous Rockstar titles came to PC after console launch, so a later PC release is likely but has no official date.

How much does GTA 6 cost?

The Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99 at pre-order launch. The Ultimate Edition includes exclusive vehicles, weapons, and apparel and can be unlocked as an upgrade after release.

What is the GTA 6 pre-order bonus?

All pre-orders receive a cosmetic content pack at launch. It is the only confirmed time-gated item set, available only to players who pre-ordered.

Will GTA 6 Online launch on the same day?

Unconfirmed. Rockstar has not announced online mode details or timing. GTA Online launched about two weeks after GTA V, so a gap is possible.

Has Rockstar confirmed item trading in GTA 6?

No. Nothing about trading, a marketplace, or a player economy has been officially announced. Our flagship post on real-money trading tracks the question.

Speculation notice. Anything about unreleased features is speculation or leak coverage, not confirmed fact. Confirmed details come only from official announcements. We update posts as the picture changes.
